A DUI Conviction in Florida Can Have Sobering Consequences
Even a single DUI conviction can have serious consequences. As a first-time offender, you may lose your driving privileges, be required to pay expensive fees and fines, be subjected to significant increases in your insurance rates and have to undergo an alcohol assessment and treatment program. You may also be required to perform community service and be placed on probation.
With multiple DUI convictions, the consequences become more severe. If convicted of a second or third DUI, you may be required to spend time in jail, and your insurance rates may become prohibitively expensive. You may face permanent revocation of your driver's license.
Either of these situations may have important collateral consequences - if you are unable to drive, you may lose your ability to get to work and consequently, you may lose your job. Depending on your individual circumstances, a DUI conviction may prohibit you from obtaining federal financial aid for higher education or result in the loss of a scholarship. Again, the best way to avoid these consequences is to avoid the conviction.
